Every cinema listing MYmovies publishes, captured once a day and archived as bytes so a corrected parser re-runs instead of re-crawling. This page reports what the collection currently holds — and, with equal prominence, what it does not.
Six days at the peak of August is not a baseline. Two tentpoles are in release and take 78% of all screenings between them; indoor screens are shut for the season while open-air arenas run under separate venue names. Every share on this page describes this window, not the Italian year.
Percentages are of screenings captured, not of screenings that exist. At least eleven cinemas are known to programme without publishing here, and 5,263 venues that have never shown a listing remain unexamined. The denominator is stated everywhere it is used.
Four of these are single numbers. Cinemas surveyed is not — it is three different questions, and reporting one of them alone hides the other two.
One point per service date. The series is short for now and gains a point every night, which is when the shape starts carrying more than the totals do — a capture that quietly stops reaching part of the country shows up here as a step, long before any single day looks wrong.
Ranked by screenings, as asked — but that column mostly measures which tentpole is in release. Screenings per film is the column that measures the distributor: it separates a business built on a few wide releases from one built on many narrow ones, and it barely moves week to week. The shape of the window, and the reason raw share is a weak measure of a distributor.
The arthouse split is the question this collection exists to answer. FICE membership is the working proxy: confirmed members are a federation roster, not an inference.
Arthouse cinemas run roughly half the screenings per venue of everyone else, and just under three times the share in original language.
Repertory is a rounding error in this window. Whether that holds outside August is exactly the kind of question a longer series answers.

Provenance is kept separable rather than flattened. The release calendar and the films' own pages are automatic; four attributions were researched by hand where both were silent, and are marked as such wherever they appear.

Screen share is far more concentrated than population: the top three provinces alone carry a share no distribution of cinemas across 107 provinces would suggest.
A quarter of a thousand comuni were repaired, not merely matched. The capture regex splits "NAME di COMUNE, ADDRESS" at the last " di ", which is right when the venue's name contains one and wrong when the comune does — so "Cristallo di San Donà di Piave" was recorded in "Piave", and "Eden di Roma, Piazza Cola" in "Rienzo". Only a candidate that is a real comune is accepted, and for the address case only when the address field kept nothing but a house number, which is what the street leaves behind when it bleeds into the comune. Every repair keeps the original value beside it.
Given the same weight as the totals, because a coverage figure without its gaps is a number that flatters itself.
A silent venue is not necessarily a closed one. Of 128 FICE members investigated individually, eleven were confirmed to be programming while publishing nothing here. The remaining 5,263 non-FICE silent venues have not been examined at all, and one confirmed gap sat in a comune with no FICE presence — so that population cannot be dismissed on the reasoning that found the first eleven.
